Create a luck log

Details:

We widen our “luck antennas” (posts, talks, open-source drops) but rarely measure the signal they pull in so we can’t tell which antennas actually work.

Shaan Puri explains how he logs every “unexpected inbound” (DMs, deal invites, press hits) and reviews the count each Friday to see if luck is compounding.

Behavioural-science shows that what gets counted gets optimised; visible metrics recruit the brain’s reward circuitry (ventral striatum) and nudge you to repeat high-yield behaviours.

Why widening + measuring works:

1. Surface area: Every public breadcrumb - a tweet, Loom demo, quick talk - acts like an antenna for stray opportunities.

2. Measurement loop: When you count lucky breaks, you see which antennas really pull signal.

Try it:

1. Create a Luck Log: Spreadsheet or Notion page with four columns: Date, Source (tweet, podcast, in-person), What Came In (intro, lead, invite), Value (£ or qualitative).

2. Ship one visible nugget per week: Short LinkedIn teardown, open-source snippet, mini-case study - with a clear reply path (“DMs open”).

3. Review every Friday: Count new inbounds, rank by value. If the podcast guest spot spawned three warm leads and a tweet storm spawned none, your next antenna is another podcast.

Three weeks of data is enough to spot patterns; ninety days usually shows compounding. Luck stops being weather and starts looking like something you can steer.
